Position Summary
Join the Office of Marketing and Communications to help tell the stories of the Hobart and William Smith community.
Student writers will interview students, alumni, faculty and staff, then write engaging news stories for publication on the HWS website. The ideal candidate is a strong writer who is reliable, curious and comfortable interviewing people. Interviews are conducted in person, over the phone and occasionally by email, so applicants should enjoy talking with people and be confident asking thoughtful questions.
Responsibilities
- Interview students, alumni, faculty and staff
- Write news stories for HWS News
- Meet deadlines and work with editors to revise stories as needed
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable and able to meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to take feedback and revise work
- Interest in journalism, storytelling or communications
- Experience writing for a school newspaper, magazine, blog or other publication (preferred, but not required)
