Younger Toddler Teacher

ENLA Learning is hiring a Younger Toddler Teacher for our Fishtown classroom, children 12 to 18 months old, in the season of first steady steps and first words. We are a Montessori-inspired private academic school and licensed early education center in Philadelphia, and this room runs at 1 educator to 4 children, tighter than the PA DHS state floor. That ratio buys you something rare in childcare: time to actually teach.

The role

You run the day in partnership with the Group Supervisor for the infant and younger toddler rooms. The work is language-rich care: narrating, naming, reading aloud, giving new walkers the words for what their hands are doing. Sensory and practical-life materials fill the shelves. Predictable routines carry the schedule, because a child this young feels safe when the day is knowable. We are educators, not babysitters.

What you will do

• Deliver developmentally appropriate Montessori-inspired lessons for children 12 to 18 months old
• Keep the room calm, prepared, and emotionally safe
• Observe and document each child's developmental progress
• Run daily routines: transitions, meals, rest, and outdoor time
• Support emerging language with constant, intentional conversation
• Communicate consistently with families
• Help keep the classroom compliant with PA DHS licensing standards

What you will need

• Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (or a PA DHS-equivalent credit path)
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Minimum 1 year of classroom experience with young children
• A warm, steady presence; very young children borrow their calm from you
• Comfort with careful written observation and family communication

• FBI fingerprint clearance (IdentoGO)
• PA State Police criminal background check (PATCH)
• PA Child Abuse History clearance
• National Sex Offender Registry check
• Pediatric CPR and First Aid
• Mandated Reporter training certificate
• Physical exam and TB test within the last 2 years

Pay and schedule

$23 to $25 per hour, set by education and experience on the ENLA Learning salary scale. Full time, in person at 1942 N. Front Street. Shifts fall within operating hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
