Engineering Intern

SALARY RANGE:    $20.00 /hr 

 

Vinyl Technology LLC is a progressive and growing manufacturer in the Aerospace/Defense sector, seeking a highly motivated Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team. We operate in one of the most vital and fast-paced segments of today's economy.

 

Since 1981, Vinyl Technology has been a trusted producer of custom plastic and industrial fabric products, serving a wide range of industries—from military and space programs to medical and extreme sports. Known for our exceptional customer service and commitment to quality, we operated as a family-owned business until 2024, when we were acquired by Survitec—global leaders in Survival Technology, including wearable survival equipment, fire safety solutions, and survival craft systems. 

 

At present, we have an exciting opportunity for a results-driven "Engineering - INTERN" to become a part of our team in Monrovia, CA. We are seeking a proactive Engineering Intern to assist with our RF-welding and sewing-based soft goods manufacturing operations. This position is well-suited for an engineering student who takes pleasure in problem-solving on the production floor, designing tools and fixtures, analyzing data, and enhancing manufacturing processes.

 

You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain to aid in tooling design, BOM/MOM creation, drawing updates, time studies, process improvement, and manufacturing support.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Junior standing or above pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field. 
  • Understanding of manufacturing environments, preferable soft-goods or aerospace. 

Technical Skills (Preferred)

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, or SolidWorks
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
  • Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma, CI concepts, and process mapping
  • Ability to perform statistical data analysis 
  • Understanding of material, tolerances, GD&T, and engineering documentation

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Able to collect data, establish facts, and draw well supported conclusions
  • Organized with strong time management skills
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable working on the production floor and engaging with operators.
  • Team oriented mindset with willingness to learn in a cross functional environment

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Tooling & Design Support 

  • Assist in designing and updating tooling, fixtures, RF-weld dies, patterns, and templates. 
  • Create and revise 2D/3D drawings using AutoCAD/Inventor/SolidWorks. 
  • Support engineering change requests and documentation updates

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Build and maintain BOMs and MOMs in the ERP system 
  • Conduct time studies, workflow observations, and recommend process improvements.
  • Support development of assembly procedures, RF-weld parameters, and sewing instructions. 

Quality & Data Analysis 

  • Analyze production, defect, and scrap data to identify trends. 
  • Assist with root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and improvement projects. 
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements for compliance. 

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Lean/Six Sigma activities to enhance throughput, reduce waste, and improve quality. 
  • Identify Opportunities for Improvements (OFIs) on the production floor

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Work directly with Production, Quality, and Supply Chain. 
  • Provide manufacturing support for troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day issues.
  • Perform any tasks as directed by Supervisor
