Student Ambassador Internships

Position Summary

The Utah State University English Department is developing a team of Student Ambassadors who are enthusiastic about welcoming students, building community, and publicizing the many opportunities available in the department. Student Ambassadors will serve as representatives of the English Department and will support student engagement, recruitment and outreach, events, communications, and special projects.

This is a paid student internship designed to provide varied experiential learning and meaningful professional development in communication, leadership, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. Ambassadors will work under the supervision of the Academic Department Coordinator and collaborate with faculty, staff, and fellow students. Student Ambassadors are eligible to enroll in ENGL 4900: Internship/Cooperative Work Experience.

Primary Responsibilities

• Welcome and connect with current, prospective, transfer, exploratory, and newly declared students.
• Assist with department events, tours, open houses, classroom visits, tabling events, and outreach activities.
• Inform and point students toward department programs, resources, opportunities, clubs, events, scholarships, and internships.
• Contribute to student-centered communications, which may include student spotlights, short videos, day-in-the-life content, event promotions, and other digital or print materials.
• Share and help to develop ideas for improving student experiences in the department.
• Participate in regular team meetings, training, planning, and reflection activities.
• Represent the English Department and Utah State University with professionalism.
• Perform other ambassador-related duties consistent with the purpose of the program.

Minimum Qualifications

• Declared English major or minor.
• Currently enrolled as a Utah State University undergraduate student and eligible for student employment.
• Completed 30 or more earned college-level credits at the time the appointment begins.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application and throughout employment. Applicants who have not yet established a USU institutional GPA may be evaluated using their cumulative transfer GPA.
• Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively.
• Dependability, initiative, sound judgment, and willingness to follow through on commitments.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Willingness to learn about department programs and university resources.
• Ability to attend required training and regular team meetings.
• Ability to represent the department at events at different times throughout the week with advance notice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience participating in department programs, courses, clubs, publications, events, or student organizations.
• Interest in helping students build community and understand the value of studying English.
• Experience managing projects, meeting deadlines, or contributing to a team.

Schedule and Appointment

• Approximately 40 hours per semester (2-3 hours per week), depending on funding, program needs, and student availability.
• Most work will occur in person on the Logan campus during standard department hours, with some evening or special-event assignments.
• Limited remote project work may be permitted when approved by the supervisor.
• The position is hourly and paid for actual hours worked. Continued employment depends on funding, program need, satisfactory performance, continued eligibility for student employment, and maintenance of the program's academic requirements, including a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Student employees are expected to prioritize their academic responsibilities and communicate early about significant schedule conflicts.

• Opportunities to develop a portfolio of approved work and articulate durable skills for resumes, interviews, internships, and graduate study.
• Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and other students to improve department life.
• A meaningful role in helping students feel welcomed, informed, and connected.

Application Instructions

Submit the following by August 28, 2026:

• A current resume.
• Confirmation of current class standing and cumulative GPA. Finalists may be asked to authorize or provide documentation for eligibility verification.
• A brief statement of interest (approximately 250-300 words) explaining why you want to serve as a Student Ambassador and what you would contribute to the team.
• Optional faculty endorsement: You may identify one USU faculty member who can speak to your reliability, communication, judgment, initiative, or potential to contribute positively to the program. No formal letter is required. The department may contact the faculty member by email or phone. Choosing not to provide a faculty endorser will not disadvantage an applicant.
