Position Overview
Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to support students in a school-based setting in Miami, Florida.
This opportunity involves supporting three students across elementary and middle school settings, with service frequency tailored to each student's individual needs. The ideal candidate will be comfortable providing both direct and consultative vision services and collaborating with school staff to ensure students have the accommodations, resources, and specialized instruction needed to succeed.
Student Population & Service Needs
The assignment currently includes three students:
Middle School: One student receiving services weekly and working on a modified curriculum.
Middle School: One highly independent student receiving services approximately once per month.
Elementary School: One student who is expected to be found eligible for services and will likely require services at least every other week.
Service frequency may be adjusted based on student needs and eligibility determinations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments.
Develop and support vision-related IEP goals and accommodations.
Assess student needs and make recommendations for appropriate educational supports.
Adapt instructional materials and classroom resources to meet individual accessibility needs.
Support the use of assistive technology and other tools designed to improve student access to the curriculum.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, families, and related service providers.
Monitor student progress and communicate recommendations to the educational team.
Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as appropriate.
Maintain accurate documentation and service records.
Ensure services are provided in accordance with applicable state and federal requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired, Special Education, or a related field.
Valid Florida certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification.
Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred.
Knowledge of accessible instructional materials, assistive technology, and specialized instructional strategies.
Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with school teams and families.
Work Environment
