Technical Applications Intern

Koehler Instrument Company manufactures laboratory testing instruments for petroleum, petrochemical and industrial laboratories worldwide. This internship offers hands-on experience in technical research, applications and customer support.

Position Summary

The Technical Applications Intern will support basic technical research, customer requirements, product information, documentation and demonstrations. The intern will prepare work for review; final technical recommendations and customer responses will remain with experienced Koehler employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research ASTM, ISO, IP and other test methods using materials provided by the team.
  • Compare customer requirements with Koehler datasheets, manuals, specifications and available configurations.
  • Prepare draft product comparisons, technical tables, equipment lists and customer responses for review.
  • Help organize and update datasheets, manuals, application notes, product files and technical reference materials.
  • Assist with product demonstrations, webinars, training materials, sample preparation and basic laboratory setup.
  • Attend selected customer or internal meetings, take clear notes and organize action items and follow-up questions.
  • Update technical request logs, project trackers and CRM records, then escalate unclear requirements, safety concerns or complex questions.

Performance Measurables

  • Research tasks and draft technical responses completed by the agreed due date.
  • Accuracy and completeness of product comparisons, equipment lists and documentation before review.
  • Demonstration, webinar and laboratory support tasks completed as assigned.
  • Technical request logs, project trackers and CRM records kept current with clear next steps.

Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related technical field.
  • Strong research, technical writing and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Comfortable reading specifications, test methods, tables, manuals and technical drawings.
  • Organized, dependable and willing to ask questions when requirements are unclear.
  • Basic Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills; laboratory experience is helpful but not required. No prior petroleum-testing experience is required and training will be provided.
