Marketing & Business Development Internship (Summer 2027)

Company: Kanyon Manufacturing Location: Plymouth, MN (Hybrid, ~80% On-Site) Compensation: $20/hour Schedule: 15-25 hours per week

Kanyon Manufacturing is a U.S.-based manufacturer specializing in plastic injection molding and precision machining. We partner with product-focused brands from early design through full-scale production, helping them grow with consistent, high-quality manufacturing.

Position Overview

This is a hands-on internship focused on real-world work in marketing and business development. Interns work directly on active initiatives that affect company growth; this is not a passive or observational role.

You will be expected to take ownership of your work, engage with real customers and prospects, and contribute to measurable business outcomes. Past interns have built lead generation systems, produced published social content, and researched accounts that the sales team actively works. This role fits someone who wants practical experience in sales, marketing, and operations at a growing manufacturing company.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales Support

  • Source and qualify leads using prospecting databases and social platforms
  • Evaluate inbound leads against target customer criteria and route them to the right owner
  • Research prospect companies and build contact lists for the sales team
  • Conduct outbound outreach by phone, email, and social channels
  • Track and manage all activity in the CRM system (Pipedrive)
  • Maintain pipeline hygiene: statuses, notes, follow-up tasks, and close dates

Marketing Execution

  • Plan, shoot, and edit short-form video content for social media
  • Write captions and post copy in the company voice
  • Manage content calendars and schedule posts through publishing tools
  • Help build and grow company social channels (organic and paid)
  • Assist in identifying target markets and customer segments

CRM & Process Improvement

  • Help improve CRM structure, tagging, and tracking systems
  • Document repeatable playbooks for lead evaluation, outreach, and follow-up
  • Test and refine tools that automate parts of the lead generation process
  • Analyze outreach performance and suggest changes based on results

Customer Insight

  • Support customer feedback interviews and help write internal summaries
  • Track recurring themes and commitments across accounts

Strategy & New Ideas

  • Bring new ideas for customer acquisition and engagement
  • Experiment with creative outreach and marketing approaches
  • Contribute to ongoing marketing and business development strategy

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree (preferred: Marketing, Business, Finance, Economics, or related field)
  • Rising Junior or Senior preferred (strong Sophomores considered)
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
  • Interest in sales, marketing, or business development
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in an unstructured environment

Compensation & Employment Disclaimer

This internship is an hourly, non-exempt position. Compensation is set at $20/hour and is subject to applicable payroll taxes and withholdings.
