M&A Business Development Intern (Part-Time, Remote, Paid)

M&A Business Development/Sales Intern

Paid | Part-Time | Remote | 5–10 Hours/Week

$18/hour + $30 per qualified appointment scheduled

NOTE:  This is a deal sourcing (appointment setting) role, not an M&A analyst position.

Yes, You’ll Be on the Phone.

A core part of this role is speaking directly with business owners.

If you’re pursuing a career in sales, business development, or entrepreneurship, few skills are more valuable than learning how to confidently start a conversation with a CEO, founder, or business owner you’ve never met.

This is not a shadowing or administrative internship. You’ll be part of the front end of the M&A process: Contacting potential acquisition targets, starting conversations with owners, qualifying opportunities, and helping build a live deal pipeline.

About Us

We’re a boutique M&A advisory firm that works with corporate buyers, private equity-backed firms, and other active acquirers to identify and engage privately held businesses that are not actively for sale.

Our focus is proactive, off-market deal sourcing. We connect qualified business owners with buyers when there may be a strategic fit.

The Opportunity

This is a paid, part-time internship designed for ambitious students interested in Professional Selling, Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, or Business.

You’ll gain real experience in business development and M&A origination while working directly with our Founder and an experienced Business Development Representative.

You’ll receive hands-on coaching in executive communication, consultative selling, prospecting strategy, qualification, and the fundamentals of M&A deal sourcing.

What makes this role different:

  • Curated prospects. You’ll contact business owners from researched target lists using verified direct contact information.
  • No sales pitch. You’re not trying to convince someone to buy something. Your role is to determine whether a business owner has interest in merging or being acquired.
  • Professional conversations. You’ll be provided with a proven script and trained to deliver it naturally and confidently while engaging business owners in professional conversations.

What You’ll Do

  • Call Business Owners - Speak directly with founders and owners to introduce our firm and the reason for reaching out.
  • Start Strategic Conversations - Explore an owner’s potential interest in growth, succession, or transition opportunities.
  • Qualify Opportunities - Evaluate potential fit based on established acquisition criteria such as geography, company size, business profile, and owner objectives.
  • Schedule Deal Conversations - Connect qualified, interested owners with our Founder for an introductory M&A discussion.
  • Manage a Live Pipeline - Track conversations, follow-ups, notes, and opportunities in our CRM.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of the internship, you’ll have practical experience in skills that translate directly to careers in sales, business development, M&A, private equity, and corporate development:

  • M&A Deal Sourcing - How buyers identify and engage privately held acquisition targets before they enter a formal sale process.
  • Executive Communication - How to confidently communicate 1:1 with founders, CEOs, and business owners.
  • Consultative Selling - How to ask effective questions, uncover motivations, handle objections, and advance a business conversation.
  • Opportunity Qualification - How to distinguish a promising acquisition prospect from one that doesn’t fit a buyer’s criteria.
  • Sales Technology - Hands-on experience with CRM, prospecting data, and modern calling technology.
  • Pipeline Management - How professional business development teams organize outreach, follow-up, and opportunities.

Who We’re Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Are comfortable learning how to speak with senior business leaders.
  • Are coachable and willing to apply feedback.
  • Have the confidence to pick up the phone and initiate conversations.
  • Are organized, dependable, and consistent with follow-up.
  • Are studying Professional Selling, Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, or a related field.

No prior sales or M&A experience is required.

We provide the training, conversation frameworks, technology, prospect lists, and ongoing coaching. You bring the professionalism, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
