Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Position Overview:
- The Coordinator will support the development, engagement, and recognition of undergraduate students in the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP), a co-curricular leadership initiative that encourages Detroit Mercy students to explore and develop their leadership identity through involvement, service, reflection, and mentorship. The role includes program management, student coaching, outreach, event coordination, and administrative responsibilities.

Reports To:
• Interim Director of the Emerging Leaders Program
Primary Responsibilities:
• Communication & Outreach o Serve as liaison between ELP participants, ILS staff, Student Life, faculty, and advisory board members
- Deliver presentations to student organizations, academic courses, and partner programs (e.g. Honors, Student Success, Leadership Minor)
- Hold weekly office hours to answer questions about ELP requirements and assist students in logging their leadership
- Send regular communications and reminders to program participants ahead of important dates and deadlines
- Monitor the ELP email inbox (elp@udmercy.edu), maintaining consistent email communication with students, staff, and faculty
- Documentation & Database Management
- Update and maintain the ELP MS Form o Update and maintain the ELP Database Excel File to track student progress
- Document program interest, participation, and completion
- Maintain and update training and program manuals
- Ensure all ELP files are properly stored in ELP Teams channel
- Marketing & Promotion
- Design flyers and other marketing materials using Canva
- Promote Leadership Slam events via email, Blackboard, and campus flyers o Host a weekly outreach table in the library
- Event & Program Logistics Coordination o Plan and execute two Log Your Leadership Event per semester
- Reserve spaces, print materials, process paperwork, and manage event logistics
- Arrange “Reflection” sessions for Medallion recipients with ELP Interim Director and program affiliates/advisory board members (Institute Director, Dean of Students, etc.) - Set date options, reserve room, send doodle to Medallion students to schedule sessions, etc.
- Organize student Reflection documents into a file folder in Teams and into a document to share with facilitators of the Reflection session
- Digital Content Management
- Update Blackboard content and announcements in the Leadership Capstone courses (and any other courses where faculty provide permission) o Maintain ELP page on Detroit Mercy’s website via contact with the office of Marketing and Communications (MarCom)
Training & Supervision :
- (if applicable) Recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate ELP Ambassadors
- Develop weekly objectives and goals for ELP Team, monitoring progress and hours worked.
- Guide Ambassadors in event planning and outreach tasks o Facilitate ELP Team meetings twice monthly
- Program Development & Evaluation o Assist with research on program outcomes and potential improvements o Improve ELP MS Form and ELP Database to increase useability based on user experience and feedback o Collaborate with ILS staff and graduate assistants across related initiatives
- Honors Convocation
- Ensure that all students who have completed ELP requirements have the opportunity to be recognized by sending reminders about Honors Convocation and submission deadlines
- Create the ELP Honors Convocation Booklet ahead of the March Honors Convocation
- Acquire Honors Convocation materials and facilitate distribution to presenters (create and print certificates, obtain Pins and Medallions)
- Coordinate logistics with Student Affairs and the ELP Director
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Graduate Program

- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Self-directed and tech-savvy (Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Teams, etc.)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Strong attention to detail and firm commitment to integrity and accuracy
- Resourceful and adaptable; able to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities
- Proactive in seeking clarification or conducting independent research when needed
- Strong public speaking skills; able to present to small and large audiences of undergraduates, faculty, and staff
- Ability to encourage and engage in frequent conversations with program participants over email, Teams, and in face-to-face meetings
- Desired Competencies:
- Passion for student development and community engagement
- Knowledge of leadership theories, co-curricular education, or program evaluation
- Experience with platforms such as Blackboard, Microsoft Teams, Forms, PowerPoint, Canva, Prezi, etc.
- Skills in event planning and project improvement
- Prior involvement in student leadership, campus organizations, or other college leadership development experiences or opportunities
Additional Requirements:
• Ability to host in-person office hours for a 3-hour block at least one weekday (on UDM’s campus)
• Availability to host virtual office hours across two non-consecutive weekdays (in addition to in-person office hours)
Anticipated Schedule:
- 5-10 hours a week
