Special Education Teacher

Special Education Teacher

A specialized educational program in Manhattan is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to join a highly supportive school-based team serving students with developmental disabilities and diverse learning needs.

This role is well suited for an educator who enjoys working in a small, structured classroom environment and providing individualized instruction based on each student's academic, developmental, and functional goals.

Students may be working below traditional grade-level expectations, with instruction focused on foundational academics, communication, independence, social development, and practical life skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver individualized and small-group instruction
  • Implement educational programming aligned with student IEP goals
  • Differentiate lessons based on individual learning levels and needs
  • Teach foundational academic, communication, functional, and life skills
  • Maintain a structured, supportive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed
  • Collect and maintain student progress data and required documentation
  • Participate in IEP meetings and educational planning
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, related service providers, and school leadership
  • Support students in developing greater independence across the school day

Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid New York State certification in Special Education / Students with Disabilities
  • Birth–Grade 2, Grades 1–6, or Grades 7–12 certification
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to provide individualized and differentiated instruction
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred

  • Experience working with students with autism, developmental disabilities, or significant learning needs
  • Experience implementing IEP goals
  • Familiarity with progress monitoring and data collection
  • Experience teaching functional academics, life skills, or adaptive skills
  • Experience working in a small or highly supported classroom setting

Compensation

$72,000–$86,000 per year

Compensation is based on education, experience, certification, and qualifications.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday

This is an in-person, school-based position in Manhattan. The program follows a school calendar and provides a structured educational environment with multidisciplinary support.
