Location: Lakewood, Colorado (Hybrid) | Hours: Approximately 8–10 hours per week (flexible) | Compensation: $300 stipend

About The Brave Women's Community Center

The Brave Women's Community Center (BWCC) is a Colorado nonprofit that provides trauma-informed, evidence-informed creative and relational programming for women who have experienced interpersonal abuse. Through expressive arts, storytelling, peer support, and community-centered programming, BWCC helps women rebuild self-trust, strengthen resilience, and create meaningful connections. As a growing nonprofit, BWCC offers interns the opportunity to make a tangible impact while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, community partnerships, and organizational development.

Our Mission

The Brave Women's Community Center supports women who have experienced interpersonal abuse by providing trauma-informed, evidence-informed creative and relational programming. Through expressive arts, peer-based support, and structured group experiences, we help participants recognize harmful patterns, rebuild self-trust, and strengthen resilience. Our work complements crisis intervention and clinical services by offering restorative, preventative spaces where women can foster connection, reclaim their agency, and build the foundation for long-term healing.

About the Internship

The Development, Fundraising & Community Partnerships Intern will work closely with the Executive Director to help strengthen the long-term sustainability of The Brave Women's Community Center. This position is ideal for a student interested in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, business development, marketing, or community engagement who wants meaningful, hands-on experience helping a mission-driven organization grow.

The intern will assist in identifying funding opportunities, cultivating community partnerships, researching prospective donors and sponsors, and supporting fundraising initiatives that expand BWCC's impact throughout Colorado.

Responsibilities

The Development, Fundraising & Community Partnerships Intern may assist with:

• Researching prospective individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations that align with BWCC's mission
• Building and organizing donor, sponsor, and community partner prospect lists
• Researching grant opportunities and assisting with grant preparation
• Identifying speaking opportunities, conferences, networking events, and community outreach opportunities
• Assisting with sponsorship packages for programs, events, and the Brave Hearts Speak podcast
• Supporting Colorado Gives campaigns and other fundraising initiatives
• Researching employer matching gift programs and donor-advised fund opportunities
• Helping develop outreach materials, donor communications, and partnership presentations
• Assisting in organizing fundraising strategies and relationship management systems
• Participating in community meetings, networking events, and partnership development as appropriate
• Contributing ideas that strengthen BWCC's long-term sustainability and community impact

About the Founder

Lucia Severtson, MA, LPC, R-DMT, is the Founder and Executive Director of The Brave Women's Community Center. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist with nearly two decades of experience working with women recovering from trauma, anxiety, OCD, and interpersonal abuse. Lucia is passionate about combining evidence-based mental health practices with creativity, storytelling, movement, theatre, and community to foster healing. She is also the host of the Brave Hearts Speak podcast, where survivors share their stories of resilience to inspire hope and healing in others.
