Overview:
Trenton Makers is a STEM education program designed to introduce students to technology, entrepreneurship, and career-focused learning. Trenton Makers is seeking motivated candidates for the Cybersecurity Teaching Internship to help students learn cybersecurity fundamentals, digital security, online safety, privacy, and other important information security concepts.
This internship provides practical experience in STEM education, cybersecurity instruction, lesson development, and student engagement. Participants will help make cybersecurity concepts understandable and engaging while supporting students through lessons, activities, demonstrations, and hands-on learning experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with teaching students fundamental cybersecurity and information security concepts.
- Support students as they learn about digital security, online safety, privacy, and common cybersecurity threats.
- Help develop cybersecurity lessons, demonstrations, activities, and educational materials.
- Explain cybersecurity concepts in a clear and understandable way.
- Assist with creating introductory cybersecurity exercises and hands-on learning activities.
- Research current cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, technologies, and industry best practices to support educational content.
- Help students understand topics such as network security, application security, data protection, and security awareness.
- Support the development of educational resources that encourage safe and responsible technology use.
- Assist with tracking student progress and identifying areas where additional support may be helpful.
- Collaborate with Trenton Makers instructors and leadership to improve cybersecurity educational programs.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Interest in cybersecurity, information security, privacy, technology, and STEM education.
- Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, or cybersecurity concepts.
- Strong research, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and understandable way.
- Familiarity with operating systems, networking concepts, or security tools is a plus.
- Programming or scripting experience with languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, or similar languages is a plus.
- Previous teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or educational experience is a plus but not required.
