Overview:

Trenton Makers is a STEM education program designed to introduce students to technology, entrepreneurship, and career-focused learning. Trenton Makers is seeking motivated candidates for the Software Engineering Teaching Internship to help students learn programming, software development, app development, and other fundamental software engineering concepts.

This internship provides practical experience in STEM education, software engineering instruction, lesson development, and student engagement. Participants will help make programming and software development concepts understandable and engaging while supporting students through lessons, activities, and hands-on projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with teaching students fundamental programming and software engineering concepts.
  • Support students as they complete coding exercises, software projects, and other technical activities.
  • Help develop software engineering lessons, demonstrations, and educational materials.
  • Explain programming and software development concepts in a clear and understandable way.
  • Assist students with debugging code and solving programming problems.
  • Support educational activities involving web development, mobile development, and other software engineering topics.
  • Help create hands-on projects that reinforce programming and software engineering concepts.
  • Research programming tools, technologies, and teaching resources that may improve student learning.
  • Assist with tracking student progress and identifying areas where additional support may be helpful.
  • Collaborate with Trenton Makers instructors and leadership to improve software engineering educational programs.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, C#, Swift, or a similar language.
  • Understanding of basic programming concepts, software development, and problem-solving.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and understandable way.
  • Familiarity with Git, GitHub, or other version-control tools is a plus.
  • Experience with web development, mobile app development, APIs, databases, or software projects is a plus.
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or educational experience is a plus but not required.
  • Interest in STEM education, technology, entrepreneurship, or startup environments is a plus.
