Operations Intern

Purpose of the Role

The Nonprofit Operations Intern supports the day-to-day initiatives and continued growth of Unity Bands while gaining exposure to multiple areas of nonprofit management.

Unlike an internship focused on one specific function, this role is intentionally flexible. Interns may contribute to research, program and event planning, organizational projects, community initiatives, and other priorities based on current organizational needs. As interns gain experience, they are encouraged to identify areas that interest them and take on greater responsibility within those areas.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Interns are encouraged to explore different areas of nonprofit work before developing a stronger focus based on their interests, strengths, and organizational opportunities.

Potential focus areas may include:

  • Research & Data: Research, surveys, community needs assessments, analysis, and reporting.
  • Programs & Community Impact: Healthcare worker initiatives, program development, and impact measurement.
  • Events & Outreach: Event planning, community engagement, outreach, and execution.
  • Planning & Project Management: Project coordination, organizational planning, timelines, and implementation.
  • Nonprofit Administration: Internal processes, documentation, organizational systems, and operational improvement.
  • Organizational Growth: Partnerships, fundraising research, new initiatives, and opportunities to expand Unity Bands' impact.

Interns are not required to select a focus area immediately. Responsibilities may evolve throughout the internship as interests develop and organizational needs change.

Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate with an interest in nonprofit management, public health, business, community engagement, public administration, or a related field.
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
  • Willingness to take initiative and contribute ideas.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or priorities.
  • Interest in learning how nonprofit organizations operate and grow.
  • Previous nonprofit experience is not required.

Time Commitment: Estimated 1–3 hours per week, with flexibility depending on organizational needs, current projects, and your availability.
