Character Designer

We're Hiring: Product & Character Designer

Location: Pico Rivera, CA

Pay: $25-28 per hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (IN-OFFICE only)

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and creative Senior Product/Graphic Designer to join our in-house team.  In this role, you’ll play a key part in developing and executing product and graphic design for our owned IPs: Anirollz and Hakongee.  This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who can take ideas from concept to final production while staying true to each brand’s unique identity.

 

Key Responsibilities

Product Development (Primary Focus)

  • Develop new, innovative products for WSL's owned IPs, including Anirollz and Hakongee. 
  • Brainstorm and present fresh product concepts aligned with current market trends and consumer insights. 
  • Create new collections and seasonal assortments from concept through production. 
  • Work closely with production and factories to ensure products are manufacturable and cost-effective. 
  • Research trends in toys, collectibles, lifestyle products, giftware, and pop culture. 

Character Asset Development (Primary Focus)

  • Create new character expressions, poses, outfits, accessories, and themed illustrations.  
  • Expand each character's personality through original artwork and storytelling assets. 
  • Develop new visual assets that can be used across products, packaging, marketing, licensing, and retail. 
  • Maintain brand consistency while continuously evolving each IP. 

Graphic Design

  • Design packaging, hangtags, labels, PDQs, catalogs, and marketing materials. 
  • Create digital assets for social media, websites, trade shows, and sales presentations. 
  • Prepare production-ready vector artwork and print files. 

Product Production & Technical Design

  • Prepare tech packs and production specifications. 
  • Select materials, fabrics, embroidery, colors, trims, and finishes. 
  • Communicate with overseas factories regarding revisions and approvals. 
  • Review samples and ensure quality before production. 

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Product Development, Sales, Marketing, and QA teams. 
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for future product launches. 
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. 
  • Support trade shows, retailer presentations, and licensing opportunities. 

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in product/graphic design, toy development, or related fields.
  • BFA or equivalent in Product Design, Graphic Design, Toy Design, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with prototyping, pre-production, and material selection.
  • Strong understanding of toy construction, compliance, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with soft/plush and plastic product development.
  • Experience with print design and branding is a plus.
  • Comfortable with project management tools (ClickUp).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
