STEM Teaching Assistant – Starting September 2026
Morrison Mentors is seeking responsible high school juniors, seniors, and first‑year college students to join our team as STEM Assistants this Fall.
If you’ve worked as a camp counselor, supported after‑school programs, helped children with art or craft projects, volunteered with youth groups, or simply enjoy being around young learners, your experience is highly valuable here.
Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required; we provide training and support.
Work Schedule
• In‑person only (Instructors report to the main office and a shuttle drives them to and from our partner sites; We are located at 250 Fulton Ave,Hempstead Ny)
Preferred availability:
During the school year (fall and Spring) : Minimum availability of Any 2 or 3 days from 12:00 PM–5:00 PM or 1:00 P–6:00 PM
• Students with broader or alternative availability are encouraged to share this information with us
Compensation: Rate of $18–$20 per hour, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist lead instructors in delivering engaging lessons and hands‑on activities
• Support students during classroom projects, helping them stay engaged and confident
• Prepare materials for daily activities, including crafts, group work and learning centers
• Maintain an organized, welcoming classroom environment
• Provide gentle guidance and encouragement to students
• Communicate effectively with teachers and staff to support classroom routines
Qualifications
• Experience working with children in settings such as camps, after‑school programs, youth groups, tutoring, childcare, or community programs s helpful but not required.
• Comfort supporting young learners with patience, empathy, and clear communication
• Familiarity with early childhood or elementary‑aged students is a plus
• Background in education or supporting children with diverse needs is helpful but not required

Federal Work‑Study Option
Morrison Mentors is an approved Federal Work‑Study site at several colleges and universities. Students who receive Federal Work‑Study may be able to use their award with us. Please check with your school’s financial aid office to confirm your eligibility.
