Position Overview
YSZ High School for Girls is seeking an engaging and student-centered Science Teacher to teach Biology and Chemistry at the high school level. The ideal candidate is passionate about science education, brings energy and enthusiasm to the classroom, and can balance creativity with strong alignment to New York State curriculum standards. With small class sizes typically ranging from 6 to 18 students, teachers have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students and create highly interactive, personalized learning experiences. This position offers the opportunity to work in a highly supportive environment with access to existing curriculum resources, coaching, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach high school Biology and Chemistry courses
- Deliver engaging, interactive, and student-centered instruction that promotes curiosity and scientific thinking
- Prepare students for New York State curriculum requirements and assessments
- Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment where students are encouraged to participate and grow
- Utilize existing curriculum resources while contributing to lesson planning and curriculum development as needed
- Collaborate with school leadership and fellow faculty members to support student success
- Participate fully in the life of the school community
Required Qualifications
- New York State Teaching Certification or a Master's Degree
- Strong subject matter knowledge in Biology and Chemistry and the ability to teach both subjects at the high school level
- Ability to teach within a New York State curriculum framework
- Ability to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences
- Comfort working within a faith-based independent school environment
- Commitment to supporting student growth, character development, and academic success.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years teaching experience is preferred
- Prior middle school or high school science teaching experience
- Experience teaching Biology and/or Chemistry in a classroom setting
- Master’s degree in Science, Science Education, STEM, Education, or a related field
- Experience with Regents-aligned curriculum or New York State science standards
- Experience teaching honors, AP, advanced science, or STEM electives
- Interest or experience in engineering, robotics, coding, or hands-on STEM programming
- Interest in designing engaging STEM electives such as Forensics, Nutrition, AP Biology, AP Physics, or other science offerings
- Experience supporting project-based learning, innovation programs, or student competitions
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $75,000 - $110,000, commensurate with experience, education, and teaching responsibilities.
