Elementary (Grades 3-5) Academic & Enrichment Coordinator
The Elementary Academic & Enrichment Coordinator (Grades 3–5) reports to the Assistant Director of Academics & Enrichment and plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing engaging, skill-based, and relationship-centered out-of-school-time programming for MetroSquash’s youngest students.
This role is responsible for creating a strong academic and cultural foundation for students as they begin their MetroSquash journey. The Coordinator leads grade-appropriate academic instruction and enrichment, builds strong classroom culture, develops meaningful relationships with students and families, and drives student recruitment, attendance, retention, and academic growth.
In collaboration with the Program Team, including Squash & Fitness, Social Work & Supportive Services, and College & Careers, the Coordinator helps ensure that students in grades 3–5 develop the academic skills, confidence, habits, and sense of belonging necessary to successfully transition into MetroSquash’s middle school programming and remain engaged in the program long-term.
Key Responsibilities:
Academics
- Deliver high-quality, grade-specific academic programming for students in grades 3–5, with a focus on foundational ELA and Math skills, academic confidence, study habits, project-based learning, and enrichment.
- Facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that incorporate movement, collaboration, hands-on activities, and differentiated instruction.
- Use assessment data, student work, exit tickets, academic logs, and other progress-monitoring tools to identify skill gaps and adjust instruction.
- Track student academic growth and school performance and develop targeted supports for students who are below grade level or need additional intervention.
- Establish clear classroom routines, expectations, incentives, and behavior-management systems appropriate for elementary-aged students.
- Build strong relationships with students and families and maintain consistent communication regarding academic progress, attendance, behavior, and program expectations.
- Supervise and effectively utilize volunteers, interns, and work-study tutors during academic programming.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director and academic team to ensure curriculum implementation and instructional quality remain consistent with MetroSquash academic goals.
Recruitment
- Lead recruitment and enrollment efforts for grades 3–5 to meet annual cohort enrollment goals.
- Build relationships with local elementary schools, community organizations, families, and other partners to maintain a strong recruitment pipeline.
- Coordinate and support MetroSquash tryouts, open houses, school visits, family information sessions, and other recruitment activities.
- Support new families through the enrollment and onboarding process, ensuring they understand MetroSquash expectations, attendance requirements, schedules, and opportunities.
- Maintain regular, proactive communication with parents and caregivers throughout the year.
- Maintain accurate enrollment, recruitment, and family engagement documentation.
Retention and Attendance
- Monitor student attendance daily and maintain a minimum 85% average monthly cohort attendance rate.
- Follow up with families regarding absences within 24 hours and document outreach and attendance interventions.
- Identify attendance patterns early and partner with families and program leadership to address barriers before students become chronically absent.
- Develop strategies that make students excited to attend, including strong classroom culture, recognition systems, enrichment opportunities, relationship-building, and student celebrations.
Data, Reporting & Accountability
- Track student attendance, grades, assessment results, academic growth, engagement, family communication, and other relevant student data.
- Maintain accurate and timely student records in Salesforce and other MetroSquash data systems.
- Use student data to identify trends, students requiring intervention, and areas for instructional improvement.
- Provide regular updates to the Asst. Director regarding cohort performance, attendance, academic progress, student concerns, and progress toward annual goals.
- Complete required program documentation, student notes, incident reports, and other records accurately and on time.
Qualifications and Qualities:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, social work, counseling, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working directly with elementary-aged students, preferably students in grades 3–5.
- Experience facilitating classroom instruction, academic enrichment, afterschool programming, or youth development programming.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to establish positive, structured learning environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and ability to respond appropriately to student behavioral and safety concerns.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a 12–15 passenger van required.
Salary: $40.000-$50,000
Hours: General hours are Monday through Friday 11:30am-7:30pm, flexibility required. The position entails weekend work – particularly on Saturdays during the school year, and eventual travel for tournaments and college tours during the school year.
