Part-Time In-Person Tutor Wanted — Newark, DE Homeschool Group

Position Type: Part-time, in-person tutoring 

Location: Newark, DE area (public library or community center — exact site TBD based on tutor availability and room reservations) 

Ideal Candidate: Current University of Delaware undergraduate or graduate student

About the Position

A small, secular homeschool group in the Newark area is seeking a patient, engaging tutor to work with one 11-year-old student (5th/6th grade level), with the possibility of adding a few more homeschooled students of similar age in the near future. This is a wonderful opportunity for an education, English, history, or science major to gain hands-on, low-ratio teaching experience while helping shape a young learner's academic foundation.

We use a Waldorf-inspired curriculum to guide lesson planning, so there is already a strong framework in place.

Subjects Needed

  • Language Arts
  • Social Studies
  • US & World History
  • Openness to additional subjects is a plus: Math, Science, or Test Prep

Schedule

Flexible and built around the tutor's availability. Please share your general weekly availability (days/times) so we can coordinate a consistent, recurring schedule that works for everyone.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled UD student (undergraduate or graduate)
  • Major in Elementary/Middle School Education, English, History, Science, or a related field preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with children ages 10–13 (tutoring, babysitting, camp counseling, classroom assistant, or similar)
  • Reliable, patient, and comfortable creating engaging, age-appropriate lesson content
  • Comfortable working from a provided curriculum while also bringing creativity to lesson delivery

Compensation

Hourly Rate

Undergraduate student, limited formal experience

$20–$25/hr

We're happy to discuss rate based on your experience level and the eventual group size once it's confirmed.
