Fall 2026 | Watershed Student Field Assistant

Job Description 

The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable individual interested in working outdoors and willing to learn new skills to fill a student Research Assistant position within the Watershed Services division. The selected applicant will primarily assist with water quality monitoring field work for Clean Rivers Program monitoring. The position may assist with project management, research, and program organization and development associated with the Clean Rivers Program.  

The pay for this position is $14-15 per hour depending on degree program. 

Specific Responsibilities 

The below includes detailed job responsibilities: 

• Assist with Clean Rivers Program state water quality monitoring field work. 
• Assist with stakeholder engagement and outreach needs including writing watershed reports, email correspondence, website upkeep, helping to plan and run meetings and events, etc. 
• Basic tasks to sustain program operations and organization such as data entry, creating and updating records, scanning, filing, and sorting.  
• Compiling information upon request. 
• All other duties as assigned by supervisor 

 Required Qualifications: 

The below are required qualifications needed to be considered for this position: 

• Must have strong work ethic and be able to work for at least two semesters. 
• Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
• Must be organized and detail oriented. 
• Must be dependable and able to self-motivate. 
• Must have superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a team. 
• Ability to complete assigned tasks and follow written or verbal instructions 
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks 
• Experience and skilled in Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
• Must be comfortable working on and around water 
• Driver's license required 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Although not required, applicants with the below experience will be favored. 

• Available to work for two years (dependent upon funding availability). 
• Trained Texas Stream Team community scientist. 
• Skilled in effective verbal and written communication. 
• Skilled in managing multiple projects. 

 Schedule 

Applicants must have availability during the hours of 6am – 5pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays (times may vary) and occasional work on other days of the week when needed. 

Location

Students without a vehicle must have a reliable method of transportation to get to work location. The Meadows Center is now accessible through Texas State’s Bobcat Shuttle system, providing an additional transportation option for students who do not have a vehicle. Students should review available shuttle routes and schedules to plan their commute accordingly.
