Environmental Education Intern

Stony Kill Foundation oversees the daily operations and community programming at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) owned Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center in Dutchess County, NY. Our mission is to connect the public to nature, sustainable farming, and local history. Our hands-on programs provide environmental education through the lens of agriculture. Over 19,000 people visit the 1000-acre farm each year, participating in our signature environmental education programs, growing fruits and veggies in the community garden, hiking the trails, and enjoying the outdoors. The beautiful Stony Kill Farm is a place where people from all walks of life can slow down, admire the scenery, and connect with the environment. 

Position Description

We are hiring a Fall/Winter Environmental Education & Farm Intern (paid) to join our energetic education team at the farm. Seasonal Interns contribute to the planning, preparation, and delivery of our field trips, homeschool and public programs. These 3 - 9-month positions will begin in September 2026 and are well suited for those who enjoy the outdoors and have a talent for teaching and inspiring curiosity in others!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead environmental and agricultural activities and lessons for field trips, homeschool and public programs.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating seasonal events, individual tours, fundraising efforts and more.
  • Assist with farm tasks including feeding animals, mucking barn, restocking feed, organizing barn areas, general cleanup, moving hay bales and equipment, etc.
  • Perform other educational responsibilities as assigned

Desired Qualifications

  • Background in teaching, child-based work, environmental sciences, or related.
  • Enthusiasm to learn, explore, and teach!
  • CPR/First Aid certifications are helpful but not required.
  • Experience with lesson plans and/or curriculum development is helpful but not required.

Additional Details

  • Pay rate: $16/hour for 20-25 hours/week
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Housing not provided.
