The UW Disability Resources for Students (DRS) Office seeks hourly student employees to provide assistance in program operations for students with disabilities. DRS is seeking candidates that are resourceful, reliable, engaged, and professional.

General Responsibilities 

  • Assist with daily operation of Front Desk or Testing Center. Some work may include cross-training and being assigned shifts on both of these teams based on operational needs.
  • Create and maintain confidential student disability files, ensuring that various information is recorded, completed and updated on a daily basis.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries related to all aspects of the DRS office and Testing Center by phone, email, or in-person communication.
  • Collaborate with other team members on projects.
  • Assist the Supervisor in other duties as assigned.

 

Testing Center 

  • Prepare, administer, and return accommodated exams for UW DRS students and instructors.
  • Review requests for exams and arrange testing schedule to ensure efficient use of space and resources.
  • Assist students and faculty in understanding accommodation implementation and procedures.

 

Front desk 

  • Answer and make phone calls, respond to emails, and interact (in-person) with individuals about DRS operations.
  • Assist with record keeping, file maintenance, data analysis, and archiving.
  • Perform copying, scanning, and general administration duties as needed.
  • Organization and routine tidying of office space.

 

Minimum qualifications 

  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, sometimes repetitious environment.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally & written) professionally and tactfully with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Pattern of excellent attendance and punctuality in prior positions.
  • Competency in working with a diverse population.
  • Meticulous attention to detail; proven dedication to accuracy in each task performed.
  • Independent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Computer skills include working with spreadsheets and word processing.

 

Additional qualities  (optional) 

  • Experience working with students and or adults with disabilities.
  • Experience in and familiarity with higher education.
  • Any familiarity with American Sign Language.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies for people with disabilities.
