Middle/Upper School English & Theater Teacher

The part time Middle/Upper School English & Theater Teacher provides direct and differentiated English instruction while implementing program and student-oriented goals. In addition, this position leads the Theater Department, overseeing curricular and extracurricular theater programming, including school productions. This dual role plays an integral part in both the continued development of a rich, engaging English curriculum and the creative vision and execution of Centreville Layton School’s theater program.

Responsibilities:

English Instruction

• Align instruction with the mission of Centreville Layton School
• Deliver engaging English instruction utilizing the curriculum and themes adopted by the school, correlated with other appropriate learning activities
• Use evidence-based practices that promote student success across the curriculum
• Demonstrate a flexible and reflective approach to teaching
• Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices; share best practices
• Use formative and summative assessments to document and monitor student progress and achievement
• Communicate effectively with administrators, colleagues, families, and students through meetings, conferences, written communication, and progress reports
• Involve parents and guardians as partners in their students’ education
• Maintain accurate student records
• Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to address them effectively

Theater Leadership

• Develop, plan, and teach theater courses and/or electives in the curriculum
• Direct and produce at least one major school production annually, overseeing all aspects of the process, including casting, rehearsals, set design, costumes, lighting, and sound in collaboration with staff and students
• Foster student engagement in all areas of theater—performance, technical design, and production management
• Coordinate with other faculty and staff to integrate theater arts into broader school programming and community events
• Manage theater program logistics, including production schedules, budgets, and communication with families and the school community
• Provide students with opportunities to explore theater both as an art form and as a tool for self-expression, collaboration, and confidence-building

General

• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
• Perform other duties as assigned
