Position Summary

Human Continuum is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join our growing biotechnology research team. This position is ideal for candidates with laboratory research experience who are eager to contribute to cutting-edge research in extracellular vesicles (EVs), molecular biology, regenerative medicine, and biotechnology product development.

 

The Associate Scientist will execute laboratory experiments independently, support assay and process development, analyze scientific data, maintain detailed documentation, and contribute to research projects from conception through execution. This role requires strong organizational skills, scientific curiosity, and the ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations & Organization

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents and stock solutions according to SOPs.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, equipment maintenance, and consumable supplies.
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store laboratory materials and temperature-sensitive reagents.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures, SOPs, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot specialized laboratory instrumentation following training.

 

Laboratory Research 

  • Independently perform molecular, cellular, biochemical, and analytical assays with minimal supervision.
  • Perform protein/DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting, cell culture, extracellular vesicle isolation, and other laboratory techniques as required.
  • Assist in assay optimization by evaluating experimental parameters and improving protocol performance.
  • Perform routine quality control testing and document results.

 

Data Analysis & Documentation

  • Analyze experimental data using Excel and other scientific software.
  • Generate standard curves, perform calculations, identify outliers, and summarize experimental findings.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs).
  • Document experimental procedures, deviations, observations, and results.
  • Troubleshoot failed experiments and collaborate with senior scientists to identify solutions.

 

Research & Project Development

  • Independently manage small research projects or define scientific objectives.
  • Conduct literature reviews and evaluate current scientific publications.
  • Review patents and emerging technologies to support research strategy and competitive intelligence.
  • Research and recommend new laboratory methods, reagents, and technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Contribute to experimental design, protocol development, and process optimization.

 

Scientific Communication

  • Present research progress, experimental data, and project updates during laboratory meetings.
  • Prepare technical reports, research summaries, figures, and presentations.
  • Generate scientific posters or project reports for internal or external use.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including biology, engineering, bioinformatics, manufacturing, and business development.

 

Professional Qualifications

Required

  • 1-3 years of laboratory research experience (academic or industry). 
  • Experience with standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques. 
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team. 

Preferred

  • Experience with extracellular vesicle (EV) research.
  • Cell culture and sterile technique experience. 
  • Familiarity with electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and quality systems.
