Position Summary
The Business Development Manager is responsible for creating and executing the agency’s business development strategy. This individual will establish and strengthen relationships with Centers of Influence (COIs), local business owners, community organizations, and strategic partners while leading initiatives that increase quote activity, referral generation, and new customer acquisition.
This leader will also oversee the Business Development Intern, ensuring outreach efforts are organized, measurable, and aligned with the agency’s growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Development
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy to generate new business opportunities.
- Identify, recruit, and cultivate high-value Centers of Influence (COIs), including:
- Real estate professionals
- Mortgage lenders
- Financial advisors
- Auto dealerships
- Property managers
- Attorneys
- CPAs
- HR professionals
- Community organizations
- Build long-term referral partnerships that consistently generate qualified prospects.
- Represent the agency at networking events, chamber of commerce meetings, business associations, and community events throughout Southern Maryland, Prince George’s County, and the surrounding Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Pipeline Management
- Build, manage, and optimize a robust pipeline of prospective Centers of Influence and referral partners.
- Track outreach activity, meetings, partnership progress, and conversion metrics using CRM tools.
- Establish weekly and monthly pipeline goals and report performance to agency leadership.
- Ensure consistent follow-up and relationship management with all prospective partners.
Quote Activity & Revenue Growth
- Drive quote activity into the agency by generating qualified referrals through strategic partnerships.
- Collaborate with licensed sales team members to maximize quote-to-close conversion rates.
- Develop campaigns and initiatives that increase referral volume and customer engagement.
- Analyze business development performance and recommend strategies to improve results.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and coach the Business Development Intern.
- Delegate research, outreach, CRM management, and partnership support activities.
- Create accountability through performance metrics and regular coaching.
- Foster a culture of innovation, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Technology & Innovation
- Utilize CRM platforms, AI tools, automation, and data analytics to improve productivity and outreach effectiveness.
- Identify and implement technology solutions that streamline partnership development and lead management.
- Monitor KPIs and leverage insights to optimize business development strategies.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of experience in business development, sales, relationship management, or strategic partnerships.
- Demonstrated success building referral networks and generating new business.
- Excellent networking, presentation, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Experience managing pipelines and CRM systems.
- Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset.
Preferred
- Experience in insurance, financial services, banking, or professional services.
- Existing network of local business relationships.
- Experience leading or mentoring team members.
- Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools and sales technology.
