Manufacturing Engineering Intern (TruckHouse, Pack Intern, Fall 2026)

Internship Description:
This internship is a continuation of manufacturing engineering work begun during Summer 2026. The Fall intern will build on that foundation across two high-impact projects:
Improving the quality and effectiveness of TruckHouse's work instruction library with a focus on reducing rework
Advancing workstation organization and process standardization across manufacturing and production areas. Both projects directly support TruckHouse's goal of building a more consistent, efficient, and quality-driven production floor.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete 150 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)
- Analysis of Asana NCR data to identify the most frequent and highest-impact rework patterns across manufacturing and production
- Prioritized list of work instructions to improve based on NCR findings
- Revised work instructions for priority tasks, each updated to include:
- Improved format, clarity, and visual aids where existing instructions fall short
- Root-cause-informed procedure steps that address known defect patterns
- Quality gates and acceptance criteria at critical steps
- Clear pass/fail criteria and escalation path when a quality gate is not met
- New work instructions authored for any identified tasks not yet covered
- All updated and new work instructions validated by manufacturing and production managers before release
- Updated documents stored in TruckHouse's work instruction library and linked to relevant Asana tasks and/or ERP work orders
Goals and Expectations of the Intern:
- Apply manufacturing engineering principles to quality improvement and defect reduction in a real production environment
- Develop skills in root cause analysis using NCR data and structured problem-solving methods
- Build expertise in work instruction development, quality gate design, and technical documentation
- Gain hands-on experience in workstation organization, visual management, and lean manufacturing practices
- Strengthen cross-functional collaboration by working with operators, leads, and managers across production and manufacturing
- Develop the ability to translate physical workflow observations into clear, standardized process documentation
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Fall ‘26 semester
- Summer ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
- Student must be enrolled in a major or minor program in the following colleges:
- Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources (CABNR)
- Business
- Engineering
- Science
- Public Health/Orvis
- At least 2 years completed with a declared STEM Major
Preferred Qualifications:
- Organized, Self starter with the ability to research and implement best practices
Desired Schedule for Intern:
Must be available to work onsite during TruckHouse business hours M-Th 6:30am to 4:30pm
Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 150 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
