Marketing Strategy Intern
Marketing Strategy and Growth Intern — Independent Contractor
Techopolis is a small, independent software company creating apps, artificial intelligence tools, and SaaS products. We are looking for a marketing student who wants hands-on experience and the opportunity to help shape how real technology products are marketed.
Because we are a small company, you will work directly with company leadership. Your ideas will be heard, discussed, and may quickly influence our marketing and product decisions.
We are looking for someone who can help us better understand our customers, improve our messaging, and develop practical marketing strategies that fit a small company’s budget. You will not be expected to manage our entire marketing operation or be solely responsible for sales. We will focus on one or two clear priorities at a time.
What you will do
Research potential customers, competitors, and marketing channels.
Help identify the audiences most likely to use and purchase our products.
Review our website, product descriptions, App Store listings, newsletters, and social media.
Recommend ways to explain our products more clearly and persuasively.
Help develop practical, low-cost marketing strategies and experiments.
Suggest ideas for product launches, campaigns, partnerships, and content.
Help us test different messages and determine what is working.
Present research, ideas, and recommendations directly to company leadership.
Help ensure marketing materials are accessible to disabled and nondisabled audiences.
Projects may include creating a customer profile, completing competitor research, improving product messaging, developing a focused campaign plan, or reviewing the results of a marketing experiment.
What we are looking for
Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to marketing, communications, advertising, business, entrepreneurship, public relations, or a similar field.
Junior or senior standing is preferred, but motivated sophomores are encouraged to apply.
Experience helping promote at least one product, project, event, organization, service, business, fundraiser, or online community.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to research a topic and turn findings into practical recommendations.
Basic knowledge of digital marketing, branding, social media, content marketing, customer research, or customer acquisition.
Comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and providing respectful, honest feedback.
Organized, dependable, and able to complete agreed-upon projects and deliverables.
Interest in technology, apps, artificial intelligence, startups, or SaaS products.
Willingness to learn and follow accessible marketing practices.
Previous professional marketing experience is not required. Relevant experience may come from a class project, student organization, campus event, volunteer role, personal project, small business, social media account, internship, or previous job.
Applicants should be prepared to explain what they promoted, who they wanted to reach, what they did, and what they learned.
Accessibility
Members of Techopolis leadership are blind and use screen readers. All documents, presentations, reports, and other work created for this position must be accessible and independently usable by our team.
Previous accessibility experience is not required, but the selected candidate must be willing to learn accessible practices, including proper document structure, descriptive links, meaningful alternative text, captions, and avoiding image-only information. We will provide guidance.
What you will gain
Direct experience working with company leadership.
An opportunity to influence real marketing and product decisions.
Portfolio-ready customer research, competitor analyses, messaging, and campaign plans.
Experience marketing apps, AI tools, and SaaS products.
Meaningful responsibility rather than routine administrative work.
Regular feedback and opportunities to discuss your recommendations.
Independent contractor arrangement
This is a paid independent contractor opportunity rather than a traditional employee position. The selected contractor will be considered self-employed and will be responsible for their own tax obligations.
The contractor will have flexibility in deciding when and how to complete the work, subject to mutually agreed project requirements, deadlines, and deliverables. No employee benefits are provided.
Applicants must be legally authorized to perform independent contract work in the United States. Students should confirm that accepting independent contractor work is permitted under any applicable financial-aid, academic-credit, visa, or work-authorization requirements.
Position details
$20 per billable hour.
Approximately 10 billable hours per month to start.
Remote and flexible around the student’s class schedule.
Work will be organized around clearly defined projects and deliverables.
Meetings with Techopolis leadership will be scheduled by mutual agreement.
As Techopolis grows, there may be opportunities for additional projects, hours, and responsibilities. Additional work is not guaranteed and will depend on company growth, business needs, available budget, and the quality of the contractor’s work.
We are willing to communicate with a college or university if the student is interested in exploring academic credit, although eligibility is determined by the school.
Application question
Tell us about one thing you have helped promote. What was it, who were you trying to reach, what did you do, and what did you learn?
