Group Leader

Position: Group Leader (After-School Program)
Location: COMPASS Elementary After-School Program at P.S. 44, Staten Island, NY

Job Type: Part-Time (20 hrs/week)

Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday
  • 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • In Person

Pay: Starting at $19.00/hour (based on experience)

About Us

The Integrated Athletic Initiative (TIAI) is a Staten Island nonprofit organization dedicated to creating inclusive, engaging, and enriching programs for youth. Through our COMPASS Elementary After-School Program, we provide students with a safe environment where they can learn, grow, and have fun through academics, recreation, sports, and enrichment activities.

We're looking for energetic, dependable, and passionate individuals to join our team as Group Leaders.

Position Summary

As a Group Leader, you will be responsible for supervising a group of approximately 15 students while creating a positive, safe, and engaging after-school experience. You'll help lead daily activities, support student development, and serve as a positive role model throughout the program.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of approximately 15 students during program hours.
  • Lead and assist with educational, recreational, sports, and enrichment activities.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Encourage student participation, teamwork, and respectful behavior.
  • Build positive relationships with students and families.
  • Communicate student progress and daily highlights with parents when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and required program documentation.
  • Follow all program policies and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members to create a fun and successful after-school experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children in educational, recreational, sports, or youth development settings preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to engage and motivate elementary-aged students.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Employment is contingent upon meeting all New York State OCFS Part 414 (School-Age Child Care) requirements, including:

  • Fingerprint clearance
  • Statewide Central Register (SCR) clearance
  • Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance
  • Sex Offender Registry clearance
  • Compliance with all applicable NYC DOHMH health and safety requirements before unsupervised contact with children.
