Campus Events Student Assistant Job Description:
Position OverviewThis dual-role position supports both Campus Events and the IT Helpdesk. The primary focus of this role is physical event setup, breakdown, and logistics. When campus events do not require student coverage, the assistant serves as backup support for the IT Center, handling front desk operations, basic technical troubleshooting, and customer service.
Primary Duties: Campus Events & Logistics
- Event Setup & Teardown: Physical assembly and positioning of tables, chairs, staging, and display equipment according to event diagrams and scheduling needs.
- Moving & Heavy Lifting: Safely transport, move, and unload materials and equipment across campus grounds.
- Independent Execution: Transport, set up, and test basic audiovisual (AV) equipment for event spaces without needing direct, continuous supervision.
- Quality & Detail Focus: Maintain high attention to detail during setups to ensure spaces are functional, clean, aligned, and ready for use on time.
Secondary / Backup Duties: IT Center Support
- Front Desk Operations: Staff the IT Center front desk (200 Bowman Hall), greet walk-in visitors, print official student/staff ID cards, and answer phone calls.
- Triage & Ticketing: Listen to customer issues, answer routine technical questions, or log detailed entries into the ticketing system for escalation.
- Classroom & Basic IT Support: Conduct basic hardware/software troubleshooting, assist with wired/wireless network connectivity issues, and respond to basic in-person support requests in campus classrooms.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Punctuality & Reliability: Strong track record of showing up on time and working independently without constant direct oversight.
- Physical Capability: Ability to handle physical labor, including heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, and moving furniture.
- Basic Technical Aptitude: Working knowledge of basic computer repair, general troubleshooting, and elementary wired/wireless networking principles.
- Communication & Professionalism: Strong customer service skills to effectively triage inquiries and interact positively with students, faculty, and staff.
Hours of availability would be: M-F 7:45-9:45a 11a-1p 3-4:30p 5-7p and some weekend hours.
