Fall Semester Sports Department Intern

Position Title: Fall Semester Intern 

Reports To: Sports Sales Team

Schedule: 3 days per week, approximately 15-20 hours per week based on student availability

Compensation: Stipend provided for completion of service 

Position Overview 

The Greensboro Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (GACVB) is seeking motivated, professional, and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate students to serve as Fall Semester Interns. This internship offers hands-on experience in tourism administration, destination marketing, hospitality operations, and organizational support within a fast-paced, community-focused environment. Interns will contribute to meaningful projects that support the Bureau’s mission of promoting Greensboro as a premier destination for visitors, events, and conventions. 

Key Responsibilities 

Intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Sports Sales Support 

  • Support the Sports Sales team in recruiting and hosting regional and national sporting events, gaining hands-on exposure to sports tourism and event coordination. 
  • Assist with sales operations, including CRM database management, lead research, and preparation of reports and materials for sales initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with staff on bid development, site visits, hotel tours, trade shows, and sales presentations to help position Greensboro as a competitive destination for sporting events.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, local events, visitor activity, and competitor markets. 
  • Help prepare marketing materials, presentations, and brand campaign assets.

Sales & Event Support 

● Provide administrative and research support for meeting and event sales efforts.  

● Assist with database updates, lead tracking, and preparation of bid materials. 

● Support pre-event preparation and post-event follow-up as needed.

 

Administrative & Operational Tasks 

● Help organize files, records, and departmental documents. 

● Assist in coordinating meeting logistics, including scheduling, materials preparation, and set-up. 

● Support special projects or cross-department initiatives throughout the semester. 

Visitor Services & Community Engagement 

● Support front-office visitor engagement, including responding to inquiries, assembling information packets, and providing destination guidance. 

● Assist in managing visitor data, feedback, and service logs. 

● Participate in community outreach initiatives or partner events as assigned. 

 

Qualifications 

● Current undergraduate or graduate student seeking academic credit or professional experience (majors in Hospitality, Tourism, Marketing, Communications, Business, or related fields preferred). 

● Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

● Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accuracy, and work independently. 

● Professional demeanor and willingness to engage with visitors, partners, and staff. 

● Proficiency in Google Workspace; familiarity with social platforms and Canva.

Work Environment 

This internship will be conducted onsite at the Greensboro Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. Interns will work closely with various departments and be included in team meetings, project planning, and ongoing operational initiatives.
