Are you studying Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field—and already have hands-on aquarium experience?
Nature Aquariums is hiring a part-time or full-time Aquarium Specialist to join our retail team in Lauderhill, Florida.
This is a year-round position, not a seasonal internship or summer-only job. We are looking for a student who lives in South Florida throughout the year and wants to build practical aquatic-animal, aquarium, and customer-service experience while completing school.
About Nature Aquariums
Nature Aquariums is a specialty freshwater and marine aquarium store with more than 100 aquariums housing tropical fish, marine fish, corals, aquatic plants, and invertebrates.
Our team works directly with animal husbandry, water chemistry, filtration systems, aquarium equipment, aquascaping, customer education, and professional aquarium projects.
This position offers students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in the classroom while developing practical skills in a fun, active, and educational work environment.
What You Will Do
Responsibilities may include:
- Care for freshwater and marine fish, corals, invertebrates, and aquatic plants
- Feed livestock and observe animals for signs of illness, stress, or behavioral changes
- Test aquarium water and maintain proper environmental conditions
- Clean aquariums and maintain filtration and life-support systems
- Receive and acclimate new livestock
- Assist customers with fish, plants, corals, aquarium equipment, and supplies
- Explain aquarium cycling, compatibility, water chemistry, filtration, and proper animal care
- Stock merchandise and maintain clean, organized retail displays
- Assist with aquascaping, aquarium setups, and special projects
- Follow established animal-care, safety, and customer-service protocols
Required Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be studying Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field
- Live in South Florida throughout the year
- Be available during school semesters and college breaks
- Have hands-on freshwater, planted, saltwater, or reef aquarium experience
- Have previous retail, sales, or customer-service experience
- Be comfortable approaching and assisting customers
- Be available to work weekends
- Be dependable, punctual, observant, and willing to take initiative
- Be comfortable standing, bending, lifting, cleaning aquariums, and working around water
- Be interested in long-term employment rather than seasonal work
Bilingual English and Spanish skills are helpful but not required.
