After School Enrichment Instructor

 Seattle Young Engineers is looking for enthusiastic Instructors to lead our innovative after-school enrichment programs across Seattle schools. In this role, you’ll turn complex STEM and mechanical engineering concepts into hands-on learning adventures using motorized LEGO® models to engage elementary students in a fun, interactive environment.

About the Program:

Our after-school enrichment program provides elementary-aged students with an introduction to the foundations of mechanical engineering, science, and problem-solving through playful, hands-on activities. Each session begins with a brief theoretical lesson, followed by guided LEGO® building activities that reinforce the day’s topic. The result? A lively classroom where students apply STEM concepts in real-time while exploring their creativity and curiosity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead fun, hands-on sessions that inspire students to explore engineering concepts and problem-solving
• Engage with students, encouraging creativity and teamwork
• Follow lesson plans and adapt activities to ensure student engagement
• Ensure a safe, positive learning environment for all participants
• Collaborate with other instructors as needed for planning and session preparation

Qualifications:

• A Passion for Working with Children: You have a genuine interest in guiding and inspiring young learners.
• Teaching/Guiding Experience: Previous experience teaching and working with children, especially in a classroom or instructional setting, is a plus.
• Strong Communication Skills: You can connect with kids and their families and articulate concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Adaptability and Creativity: You’re comfortable following a structured lesson plan but can think on your feet and adapt when needed.
• Commitment: Available to work at least 3 days a week and committed for two semesters, with a preference for candidates who can work the entire school year.
• Background Check: Able to pass a criminal history background check in line with Seattle Public School requirements.
• Reliable Transportation: Must have a car, valid driver’s license, and car insurance, with the ability to transport 3 medium storage containers and a folding cart (fit in a standard-sized trunk or back seat).

Schedule & Benefits:

• Schedule: Part-time, Monday-Friday from 2:00-5:00 PM, with an early start on Wednesdays (1:00-4:00 PM)
• Hours: Expected 6–12 hours per week
• Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Additional Details:

• Location: This position is in-person at various schools throughout Seattle, WA.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
• Training Provided: No prior knowledge in STEM or LEGO® building is required. We’ll provide training to equip you with all the concepts, materials, and skills needed to succeed.
