Compensation: $250/month stipend (paid upon successful completion of assigned tasks)

Location: Hybrid

Time Commitment: 10–15 hours per week, including 2 days on-site each week (with Friday being one of those on-site days) and occasional weekend hours for events (with advance notice)

Duration: 3 months, September 8, 2026 – October 30, 2026 (estimated)

DiasporaDNA Story Center is a cultural hub that explores origin stories and collective memories through the art, history, and lived experiences of the global majority. We celebrate our shared humanity through story, kin-keeping the common threads of our diasporas across the continuum of time.


 

Position Overview

DiasporaDNA Story Center is seeking an organized and enthusiastic Programs & Events Intern to support the planning, coordination, and evaluation of our public programs and community events. This hands-on internship offers experience in nonprofit programming, event operations, partnership development, audience engagement, and member services while helping deliver meaningful cultural experiences throughout Philadelphia.


 

This is a hybrid position combining remote work, in-office collaboration, and on-site event support. The intern will staff approximately 2–3 events per month, including occasional evenings and weekends with advance notice.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and execution of public programs, including City Scholar Talks (First Fridays), genealogy programming, Festival Lovers Club outings, and other community events.
  • Assist with event logistics, speaker and partner coordination, material preparation, registration, and day-of setup and breakdown.
  • Staff 2–3 programs or community events each month, welcoming attendees and supporting visitor engagement.
  • Research and conduct outreach to potential speakers, scholars, storytellers, community organizations, and program partners.
  • Help build and maintain relationships with community partners and collaborators.
  • Collect and organize attendee data through Eventbrite registrations, surveys, sign-in sheets, and in-person feedback to support program evaluation.
  • Assist with post-event reporting and recommendations for future programming.
  • Provide administrative support for programs and membership operations, including responding to inquiries, maintaining program records and archives, and assisting the Programs & Members Manager with special projects.
  • Coordinate volunteers and support internal team communication during events.


 

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in nonprofit programming, community engagement, cultural organizations, or event planning.
  • Comfortable working with diverse communities and engaging with the public.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and proactive.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for scheduled events.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Canva, Eventbrite, or similar platforms is helpful but not required.
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia neighborhoods and community organizations is a plus.


 

Compensation

A $250 monthly stipend will be provided upon successful completion of assigned responsibilities each month.
