Youth Development Specialist- After School Support (AmeriCorps) – Mission Graduates

As an Youth Development Specialist with BAYAC AmeriCorps, you will help create a fun, engaging, and supportive after-school environment where elementary school students can learn, grow, and thrive. This position is hosted at Mission Graduates, a San Francisco-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth and families on the path to higher education.

AmeriCorps Members serving in this role will lead enrichment activities, facilitate group games, provide homework and academic support, and help students build confidence through positive relationships and engaging learning experiences.

Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates are encouraged to apply. While not required for every site, bilingual skills are highly valued in many of Mission Graduates' school communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging enrichment activities that promote creativity, teamwork, and student engagement
  • Facilitate group games, recreational activities, and community-building exercises
  • Provide homework assistance and academic support to elementary school students
  • Support literacy development through reading, writing, and educational activities
  • Build positive relationships with students to foster confidence, belonging, and social-emotional growth
  • Support daytime and after-school programming that promotes academic success and positive youth development
  • Encourage positive student behavior and help maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive program environment
  • Collaborate with school staff and Mission Graduates team members to support student success
  • Participate in family engagement activities, cultural events, and organization-wide programming
  • Attend trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred for some school sites
  • Passion for working with elementary-aged youth
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience leading activities, tutoring, mentoring, or working with children is a plus
  • Interest in education, youth development, or community engagement

Job Details:

Job Type: Full-time, Contract

Pay: ~$2,700 per month

Location: Multiple Mission Graduates elementary school sites – San Francisco, CA

Schedule:

  • 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
  • Monday to Friday
