Student Success Coach – Juvenile Justice Education (AmeriCorps) – Butler Academic Center (ACOE)

As a Student Success Coach with BAYAC AmeriCorps, you will support students through academic mentoring, social-emotional learning, and individualized educational support within a juvenile justice setting. This position is hosted at Butler Academic Center, a fully accredited school operated by the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) that serves youth detained at the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center.

AmeriCorps Members serving in this role will help students build the academic, social-emotional, and life skills needed to earn their high school diploma or GED while preparing for success beyond their time at Butler Academic Center. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in restorative justice, juvenile justice, education, counseling, psychology, social work, or youth development.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with justice-involved youth through mentorship and consistent support
  • Provide individualized academic coaching and encouragement to help students progress toward earning a high school diploma or GED
  • Support students in developing social-emotional, communication, and life skills
  • Reinforce restorative practices, emotional regulation, and positive decision-making
  • Assist teachers with classroom instruction and educational activities
  • Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes personal responsibility
  • Collaborate with educators, probation staff, and community partners to support student success
  • Encourage student engagement, goal-setting, and preparation for post-secondary opportunities
  • Assist with tracking student progress and maintaining accurate program documentation
  • Participate in trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities

About Butler Academic Center

Butler Academic Center is a fully accredited compulsory educational program serving youth detained at Alameda County's Juvenile Justice Center. Students are referred by the Juvenile Court and Alameda County Probation Department.

The program provides individualized instruction, instructional aides, and special education services while helping students earn a high school diploma or GED. Through a partnership with Merritt College, students who complete their diploma or GED also have the opportunity to earn transferable college credits through online coursework.

Job Details:

Job Type: Full-time, Contract

Pay: ~$2,700 per month 

Location: Butler Academic Center – Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center, San Leandro, CA

Schedule:

  • 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
  • Monday to Friday
