Part-Time Field Trip Facilitator

The STEM Connection (TSC) is a non-profit organization that works to engage youth in STEM principles through accessible, nature-related experiences with a commitment to those who are underrepresented in STEM careers. Our hope is that these experiences will fuel dreams and inspire futures in STEM. TSC’s 30-acre outdoor learning site at Moore Road Farm is in the Traders Point Rural Historic District located on the northwest side of Indianapolis. Programming is built on academic standards and best practices and is connected with ongoing environmental and conservation projects that honor the land and waterways of Indiana. TSC is committed to being diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible.

TSC is looking for a qualified part-time Field Trip Facilitator to join our team. TSC offers experiential STEM programs for children and adults in person and virtually. TSC works with schools, families, and other nonprofits to provide award-winning, relevant services that empower and impact children for today and tomorrow. Field Trip Facilitators provide program support and facilitation for field trips at Moore Road Farm as well as reverse field trips at the school or program’s location. Field Trip Facilitators report to the Director of Programs.

Responsibilities  

  • Facilitate programming: traditional field trips, reverse field trips, and occasionally other programs 
  • Provide program support for field trips, reverse field trips, STEM Kits, and other programs as needed 
  • Organize, collect, prepare, and manage materials for programming 
  • Participate in wildlife and habitat conservation, sustainability practices, and water quality analysis 
  • Assist with garden and farm maintenance in preparation for, for use during, and at the conclusion of program seasons 
  • Duties as assigned

Requirements  

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in education or a STEM-related field preferred 
  • Experience working with children 
  • Experience teaching or facilitating STEM/science lessons/activities 
  • Ability to complete tasks in a professional, effective, and efficient manner 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently 
  • Coachable and a lifelong learner 
  • Desire to move the mission and vision of TSC forward 
  • Ability to work flexible weekday hours (hours vary by season) and occasional weekend events 
  • Experience with Google applications (Drive, Docs, Slides, etc.) is a plus 
  • Completion of TSC Onboarding, Safeguarding Youth Training, and CPR Certification 
  • Participation in all seasonal program trainings
