Position Summary
The Operations Process Intern supports the development, documentation, and improvement of operational workflows, with a primary focus on creating structured process flowcharts. This includes both operational processes and project management workflows, helping improve clarity, coordination, and execution across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Process Mapping & Flowchart Development
- Develop process flowcharts for key business operations, including:
- Purchasing/procurement
- Inventory management
- Production workflows
- Translate real-world workflows into clear, standardized visual diagrams
- Identify process steps, decision points, inputs/outputs, and responsible parties
- Validate flowcharts with stakeholders and revise as needed
- Maintain consistency in flowchart structure, symbols, and formatting
Project Management Flowchart Development
- Develop and document project management workflows, including:
- Project initiation and approval
- Planning and resource allocation
- Execution and tracking
- Review and closure
- Create flowcharts that define:
- Roles and responsibilities
- Milestones and deliverables
- Decision and approval points
- Support standardization of project execution processes across teams
Documentation & Standardization
- Assist in creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on flowcharts
- Ensure alignment between documented procedures and actual practices
- Maintain a centralized and organized repository of process documentation
Data Collection & Process Analysis
- Collect basic data on process performance (e.g., cycle time, delays, bottlenecks)
- Support analysis to identify inefficiencies and risks
- Assist in tracking key operational and project metrics
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with operations, purchasing, engineering, and finance teams to understand workflows
- Participate in meetings to gather requirements and validate processes
Continuous Improvement Support
- Identify opportunities to simplify workflows and improve efficiency
- Assist in implementing and documenting process improvements
- Support alignment between operational and project workflows
Learning Objectives
- Gain hands-on experience in process mapping and flowchart design
- Understand both operational workflows and project management processes
- Develop skills in cross-functional coordination and structured problem-solving
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or related fields
- Strong interest in operations and project management
- Familiarity with flowcharting tools (Visio, Lucidchart, PowerPoint, etc.) is a plus
