About the role

Bay Area Bright Minds hires part-time STEAM Instructors to lead weekly after-school classes for students in grades 1-6. You teach circuits, electronics, and AI/software projects from our ready-made curriculum, so your time goes into teaching and mentoring instead of lesson planning.

You lead your own class. You keep the same group for the full term, which means you actually watch a 4th grader go from “what is a resistor” to finishing a build they carry out the door.

What you would do

Lead hands-on STEAM classes for students in grades 1-6

Teach hardware (circuits, electronics) and AI/software builds from our curriculum

Make sure every student finishes their cohort with a real project they take home

Show up each week with reliable, upbeat, kid-friendly energy

What we are looking for

Enthusiasm for engineering, tech, or STEAM education. No teaching credential required

Some experience with kids: tutoring, camps, coaching, mentoring, or similar

Comfort with hands-on hardware or coding

Available 1-10 hours per week on a consistent weekly schedule

Reliable transportation to SF Peninsula school sites

Age 20+ and able to pass a background check

Most of our instructors are undergrads and grad students who wanted something steadier than one-off tutoring. You get a fixed weekly slot you can build a quarter around, the same students each week, real curriculum instead of improvising, and $40-60/hr. Instructors who do well move into lead roles and curriculum work.

Please note

This is a recurring, ongoing role, not a short-term gig. One term minimum, same day and time each week, on-site on the Peninsula. We are looking for people who will be in the Bay Area for a while and want something steady in their schedule, not a stopgap between other plans. Cancellations affect real families, so reliability matters to us more than credentials do.
