Primary Purpose: 

Assists the School Safety Coordinator in managing the school safety program and initiatives; provides support for campus safety liaison assistant principals

Education/Certification: 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred but not required Three years related experience, required training – certificates must be presented within six (6) months of hire date:

 Special Knowledge/Skills:

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

Prepare, implement and manage safety initiatives for the school district. Train staff as needed on district policies and procedures related to school safety. Communicate changes to school safety policies and procedures to campus administration.

Communicate emergency situations (weather, hazardous materials incident, etc.) to campus administration immediately upon notification. 

Conduct triennial campus and district facility audits as mandated by the Texas School Safety Center. 

Assist with implementation and management of reunification efforts. 

Assist in the management of the district’s emergency response protocols as outlined in the KISD Crisis Management Plan. 

Engage in continuing education training to advance knowledge and be aware of changes to local, state and federal policies. 

Assist with the development and implementation of threat assessment protocols and processes Cultivate relationships with campuses to provide support and technical assistance and ensure compliance with district threat assessment policies. 

Respond to reports received through the district’s bullying and threat reporter website and follow established policies and procedures to ensure all reports are addressed appropriately. 

Conduct interviews with various parties as part of the threat assessment process. 

Work with campus administration to create monitoring and reporting plans for students who have threat assessment plans in place; ensure all documentation for these plans is kept current and the student is appropriately monitored. 

Ensure all threat assessment reporting and documentation is current in the Sentinel platform 

Provide immediate crisis response at a campus or event as needed and assist in the coordination of response activities. 

Serve as a member of the KISD threat assessment team. 

Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations Compile and report statistics to the Director of Investigations and School Safety as needed or requested. 

Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Phone systems, video/instructional equipment, air rifles, and peripherals. Posture/Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear, to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.  Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders. Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over). 

Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. District-wide travel to multiple campuses, as assigned. Occasional travel outside of the district. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional work during the weekends and evenings for special school functions. May work outside with extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and humidity extremes; regular exposure to noise and computer monitors. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; emotional control under stress.
