Speech and Debate Instructor

iLEARN Education is seeking an experienced and passionate Speech & Debate Instructor to coach motivated middle and high school students in competitive debate. We are looking for someone who not only has a strong competitive background but also genuinely enjoys mentoring students and helping them develop confidence, critical thinking, and leadership skills.

This position offers long-term growth, with the opportunity to become the Speech & Debate Program Director as our department continues to expand.

Responsibilities

• Coach students in competitive Speech & Debate.
• Prepare students for local, regional, and national tournaments.
• Attend and coach students at weekend tournaments.
• Teach debate strategy, case construction, rebuttals, research, public speaking, and critical thinking.
• Provide individualized coaching and detailed feedback.
• Track student progress and communicate with the academic team.
• Contribute to curriculum development and help grow the Speech & Debate program.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of Speech & Debate experience as a competitor, coach, or instructor.
• Demonstrated experience coaching students for competitive debate tournaments.
• Strong knowledge of Parliamentary Debate and Lincoln-Douglas Debate is highly preferred.
• Experience with additional debate or speech events (Public Forum, Congressional Debate, Policy Debate, Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, etc.) is a plus.
• Available to coach at weekend tournaments throughout the school year.
• Passionate about working with students and helping them build confidence and communication skills.
• Excellent communication, organization, and mentoring skills.
• Reliable, professional, and team-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

• Former nationally or regionally competitive debater.
• Experience coaching students with successful tournament results.
• Familiarity with the California Speech & Debate circuit is preferred.
• Experience mentoring assistant coaches or developing debate curriculum is a plus.
• Strong leadership potential with the desire to grow into a Speech & Debate Program Director role.
