High School Reading Tutor

High School Reading Tutor (SIPPS) – Part-Time

$30–35/hour | Monday–Thursday | In Person | Mid-September–Early April

At Proficiency Builders, we believe every student deserves instruction that is targeted, evidence-based, and delivered by exceptional educators. We are seeking one experienced Reading Tutor to provide in-person, small-group literacy intervention for high school students using the SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) program.

This position is ideal for an educator with a strong understanding of the Science of Reading who enjoys helping adolescent readers build foundational skills, confidence, and independence.

Position Details

  • Pay: $30–35/hour, based on experience, licensure, and relevant certifications
  • Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 1:50–3:50 PM
  • Program Dates: Mid-September through early April
  • Location: In person (Indianapolis area)
  • Approximately 8 hours per week

Consistent attendance is essential. Because students work with the same tutor throughout the program, applicants should be available Monday through Thursday for the duration of the school year.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily SIPPS lessons to small groups of high school students.
  • Implement structured literacy instruction with fidelity.
  • Foster a positive, engaging learning environment that builds student confidence.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate with the Proficiency Builders team.
  • Collaborate with school staff to support student success.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience teaching or tutoring middle or high school students.
  • Strong understanding of the Science of Reading and structured literacy instruction.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with adolescent learners.
  • Reliable, professional, and committed to helping students succeed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing SIPPS.
  • Current teaching license, reading endorsement, or relevant literacy certification.
  • Experience as a reading interventionist, special education teacher, literacy coach, or classroom teacher.
