Fall 2026 | Library Assistant
The Schneider Music Library at Texas State University (located in the Music Building) is seeking a Library Assistant for Fall 2026. This position is open ONLY to students with Federal and/or State Workstudy funding.
Successful candidates can expect to work 17-19 hours per week. Shifts will be assigned in a way that works around your class schedule and other regular obligations, but may be any time within the library's operating hours (which are typically Mon-Thu 9am-8:30pm, Fri 9am-4pm, Sat 12-5pm, Sun 2-7pm). Once a weekly work schedule is established, we strive to maintain that same schedule every week for the duration of the semester.
Seeking candidates who are RELIABLE, punctual, calm, patient, curious, attentive to detail, and interested in helping people connect with the information they need. A background in music or library service is preferable, though not required.
Main duties include circulation desk help (checking items in and out), shelving books, dusting/tidying, making courier runs to the Alkek library, assisting patrons with basic questions, opening/closing library, assisting Music Librarian with special projects as needed.
Student employees are evaluated in writing by their direct supervisor, Mark Blair (Music Librarian) at the end of each long semester, assessing their alignment with the positive work traits listed in the 3rd paragraph above.
All student employees begin at the starting pay rate of $11/hr, which may increase by $0.25/hr after two long semesters (Fall/Spring) of employment with a positive evaluation from the supervisor.
