Class of 2030 Scholars in Medicine Program

A three-year highly selective program for motivated students committed to a career in medicine. The program focuses on extracurricular planning, professional formation, and long-term skill-building. Scholars design rigorous and sustainable undergraduate pathways that enable them to apply to medical school at the end of their third year.

A complete application consists of:

1) A one-page resume

2) Cover letter

3) Official transcript with fall quarter grades

4) Interview (interviews will be conducted January 13-22, 2027)

Program Requirements & Benefits:

  • Specialized Advising: all Scholars in Medicine will complete a required quarterly one-on-one meeting with a Careers in Healthcare adviser.
  • Pre-Med Experiences: the program will give Scholars direct exposure to medicine and help them build a compelling portfolio of experiences. These opportunities will focus on three different areas, each of which are critical for a successful medical school application:
    • Research: summer or academic year research in any area of healthcare-biomedical science, policy, economics, community health, clinical, etc.
    • Clinical Experience: regular exposure to patients through research, volunteering, or paid work
    • Service: sustained engagement with the community via weekly volunteering
  • Healthcare Career Treks: all Scholars will attend at least one career trek during their time with the program.
  • Annual Retreat: students will complete a yearly retreat prior to the start of the academic year where they will present a reflection on their exploration of medicine through their research, clinical, or service experiences and plan for the next academic year.
  • Funded Summer Experiences: Scholars will receive funding for two summers to pursue internships or research opportunities.
  • Healthcare Portfolio: participants will maintain a longitudinal portfolio where they reflect on their growth, set goals, and document their experiences. Portfolios are due three times a year. These portfolios will be helpful as students prepare their medical school applications.
