Student Writer
We are seeking a student with solid writing skills who will write news releases and other copy for promoting the university. Our student writers help publicize upcoming campus events, promote student achievements, profile interesting/accomplished individuals and cover general topics, as needed. Writing releases requires occasional interviews with relevant students, faculty and staff.
The student writer will work under the direct supervision of the NMU News and Publications Director. We are looking for someone who can commit 10+ hours per week during the academic year, beginning with the Fall 2026 semester in August. Our student workers build a strong portfolio that will set them apart in future job interviews.
The ideal candidate will have previous newswriting experience (high school newspaper, etc.), or can demonstrate strong nonfiction writing skills. This is perfect for journalism majors. Public relations majors who want to gain experience writing press releases are also highly encouraged to apply. Please submit three nonfiction writing samples (e.g. high school newspaper article, course papers, etc.), along with a cover letter and resume.
