Lab Internship opportunity with BioPet Laboratories

Join BioPet Laboratories as an entry level part-time paid intern supporting DNA Analysts in a commercial DNA testing laboratory specializing in canine genotyping. This internship will provide a unique experience in a high-throughput DNA testing lab applying business models to supplement a student’s academic lab understanding. 

Duties will include routine lab maintenance such as cleaning benches and equipment and restocking supplies. Daily activities typically include sample preparation for DNA extraction methods and organizing samples for short-term and long-term storage. These tasks provide a strong foundation for how each activity progresses sample production, how efficiencies are gained, and how to gain familiarity with basic lab instruments. Depending on experience and length of employment, responsibilities may grow to include learning DNA extraction methods and isolation from various biological animal samples including: buccal swabs and canine fecal samples. 

Minimum requirements: Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate coursework in the fields of science. The technician will be expected to work well with BioPet Lab’s laboratory staff and other professionals with a willingness to self-motivate. 

Our standard operating hours are Mon – Fri 8am-5pm. It is understood that student interns will have a flexible schedule that works around their enrolled classes. An intern typically commits to 10-16 hours weekly.
