Urban Green Atlanta Crew Leader
Position Summary
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) Urban Green Crew Program provides young adults with paid, hands-on experience in conservation, environmental stewardship, and workforce development. Crew members work together to improve and protect Atlanta's parks, trails, forests, and green spaces while developing valuable workplace skills that prepare them for future careers. Participants will complete meaningful conservation projects including trail maintenance, habitat restoration, invasive species removal, litter abatement, urban forestry, landscaping, and park improvements throughout the Metro Atlanta area. Projects are completed in partnership with local parks, nonprofit organizations, schools, municipalities, and community organizations. Throughout the program, crew members will strengthen communication, teamwork, professionalism, leadership, and problem-solving skills while gaining exposure to careers in conservation, environmental science, parks and recreation, forestry, and other natural resource fields. This program is ideal for young adults who enjoy working outdoors, making a positive impact in their community, and developing skills that can lead to future educational and employment opportunities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Crew Leaders help to foster teamwork, guide crew dynamics, and manage field-based tasks to ensure safety and productivity.
- Advisor: Train crew members in technical conservation skills, mentor personal and professional development, and promote environmental stewardship values.
- Project Manager: Communicate with agency and park partners, oversee successful and timely project completion, and ensure a positive representation of the SCA.
- Program Administrator: Organize logistics, manage program budgets, complete necessary documentation, and maintain clear communication with SCA staff.
- Driver: Upon completing SCA’s MVR check and driver safety training, safely transport crew members to and from pick-up locations, worksites, and drop-off points within the DC metro area using an SCA rental van.
- This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to mentor budding conservationists while contributing to meaningful environmental projects in both urban and park settings.
Marginal Duties
Crew leaders should expect to complete ~3-5 hours/weekly to complete crew leader administration tasks. These tasks may include coding expense receipts, uploading photos from the field, writing incident reports, attending weekly staff check-in meetings, or reviewing member time logs, among other things.
Required Qualifications
- Attend and complete Urban Forestry Leader Training
- Perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- US Work Authorization
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with youth or young adults, teaching or environmental education
- Experience working in a team

Compensation
- $920.00 weekly salary
- $45.00 cell phone stipend
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
