Tutor – English Language Arts (ELA) & Essay Writing
We are seeking a dedicated and engaging English Language Arts (ELA) Tutor to work with a small group of homeschool students in grades 2nd–8th
. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching, enjoys working with students in a small-group setting, and can help develop strong reading, writing, grammar, and critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities
- Tutor students in English Language Arts using California Common Core State Standards.
- Teach essay writing, paragraph structure, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and literary analysis.
- Provide individualized academic support based on each student's needs.
- Review writing assignments and provide constructive feedback.
- Help students develop organization, study skills, and confidence in writing.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
- Communicate student progress with parents as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience teaching, tutoring, homeschooling, or working with students.
- Degree or relevant coursework completed in English, Education, Liberal Arts, or a related field preferred.
- Working towards a teaching credential seeking classroom experience or credentialed candidate is a plus.
- Current college students majoring in English or Education are encouraged to apply.
- Reliable, patient, organized, and enthusiastic.
Schedule
- Part-time
- Flexible Mon – Thurs 1pm – 6pm (diff shifts available)
- Additional hours may be available based on enrollment.

This position is ideal for college students in the Early Childhood Education Program and Child Development Department looking to gain experience working with children, transfer pathways, and permit-aligned certificates for future educators working toward state credentials
