About the Role

We're seeking a Team Leader – Business Development to lead and grow a sales team out of our Phoenix office, while personally carrying quota responsibility for closing new business across the U.S. market — with a focus on innovation-driven and industrial sectors.

This is a senior, dual-mandate role: you'll manage and develop a team of Business Development Executives (BDEs) and Business Development Representatives (BDRs), while also personally originating and closing deals. The ideal candidate has a strong hunter mindset, proven sales capability, prior exposure to R&D Tax Credits or adjacent technical consulting solutions, and demonstrated experience leading, coaching, or mentoring a sales team.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of BDEs/BDRs in the Phoenix office
  • Onboard and train new team members, and continue developing existing team members, on Leyton's value proposition, sales methodology, and CRM/prospecting tools
  • Conduct regular pipeline reviews, deal coaching, and 1:1s with direct reports
  • Foster a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative team culture
  • Report on team performance and forecasts to senior leadership

Individual Sales Delivery

  • Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities across the U.S. market, targeting mid-market to enterprise accounts
  • Build and manage a personal pipeline through strategic prospecting, research, and outreach
  • Own the full sales cycle — from first contact through negotiation, closing, and onboarding handover
  • Develop tailored, consultative value propositions addressing client needs in R&D, tax, innovation funding, and related consulting services
  • Build and nurture strategic partnerships with referral sources, advisors, and industry networks to support long-term pipeline growth
  • Engage and influence senior decision-makers, including C-level executives and functional leaders (Finance, Tax, Operations)
  • Partner closely with internal consulting and delivery teams to ensure seamless client transition and execution
  • Consistently achieve and exceed personal and team revenue and activity-based KPIs
  • Support expansion opportunities within existing client relationships

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in B2B sales or complex solution selling, including at least 1–2 years in a team lead, sales manager, or mentorship capacity
  • Strong preference for candidates with proven experience selling R&D Tax Credits, innovation incentives, tax advisory, or related consulting services to U.S. companies
  • Alternatively, strong sales experience with established relationships in manufacturing organizations (primary preference) or software environments
  • Proven success in a quota-carrying, closing role with measurable results
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a sales team, with experience in coaching, performance management, and driving team KPIs
  • Strong consultative selling skills with the ability to translate technical value into commercial outcomes
  • High-volume outreach expertise with a strategic prospecting approach
  • Ability to engage senior decision-makers and key stakeholders with confidence and credibility
  • Outstanding communication and persuasion skills, with strong pitching and negotiating ability
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and goal-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sales cycles with multiple stakeholders

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field (required)

Competencies

  • Strong interest in finance, accounting, tax advisory, or innovation-focused advisory services
  • Highly consultative, solution-oriented sales approach
  • Strong pipeline management and organizational discipline, for both self and team
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously while overseeing team performance
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and collaborative leadership skills
  • High integrity, professionalism, and accountability
  • Results-driven, proactive, and comfortable working in a target-based environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools

Nice-to-Haves

  • Sales or business certifications (e.g., from recognized business schools)
  • Experience in management consulting, financial advisory, or professional services
  • Prior formal people-management experience (direct reports, performance reviews, hiring)
  • Familiarity with CRM tools such as Salesforce and sales engagement platforms (e.g., SalesLoft)
  • Background in selling intangible products or services
  • Formal training in structured sales methodologies (e.g., MEDDIC, Challenger, SPIN)
