Development & Data Integrity Intern

Development & Data Integrity Intern

Job Description

About Global Smile Foundation

Global Smile Foundation (GSF) envisions a world where no child or adult lives with the burden of untreated cleft. We believe quality cleft care should never depend on geography, income, or circumstance. Every individual deserves the chance to speak, eat, smile, and thrive with confidence.

Our work rests on three pillars: medical care, education, and research.

Through our Sustainable Health Programs in Beirut (Lebanon), Trujillo (Peru), Guayaquil (Ecuador), and San Salvador (El Salvador), we partner with local providers to strengthen cleft care from within—delivering free comprehensive treatment while building long-term capacity.

Our commitment extends far beyond the operating room. Each year, we bring together clinicians from across low- and middle-income countries through the Comprehensive Cleft Care Workshop (CCCW), a global training initiative that equips providers to expand access to high-quality cleft care in their own communities. We also invest in future leaders through our global health research fellowship, advancing both the science and practice of comprehensive cleft care.

All of this is powered by an extraordinary team and hundreds of dedicated volunteers—surgeons, nurses, students, and partners—who give their time and talent to ensure that every patient we meet receives the care they deserve.

The Role

The Development & Data Integrity Intern supports GSF’s development team across two connected areas: a comprehensive donor data consolidation initiative and active major gift and stewardship work.

GSF is undertaking a donor data consolidation initiative to bring more than two decades of philanthropic history into a single, unified system of record. As the organization has grown, generosity has reached us through many channels—direct gifts, peer-to-peer campaigns, event revenue, donor-advised funds, third-party platforms, and partner organizations. This project brings that full giving history together in one place, creating a complete and reliable foundation for donor stewardship, reporting, and long-term relationship building.

Alongside this work, the intern contributes directly to active fundraising—supporting major gift proposal development, prospect research, and stewardship communications. This is a hands-on role well suited to someone who is detail-oriented, curious, and interested in how a global health nonprofit builds and sustains its philanthropic base.

The position reports to the Chief Development & Strategy Officer (CDSO) and works in close partnership with GSF’s development operations staff.

Key Responsibilities

Data Integrity & Records Consolidation

  • Research, retrieve, and reconcile historical giving records from external platforms, financial records, and archived files to ensure GSF’s database reflects the most complete giving history possible
  • Enter, update, and standardize constituent and gift records in Blackbaud, following established data entry conventions
  • Identify and resolve duplicate records, incomplete constituent profiles, and inconsistent coding
  • Cross-reference records across Blackbaud, Classy, and Klaviyo to ensure alignment across systems
  • Document data sources, decisions, and outstanding gaps to support institutional knowledge and future audits
  • Flag discrepancies and unresolved items for review rather than resolving them independently

Development & Donor Engagement Support

  • Assist in drafting, formatting, and assembling proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials for major gift prospects
  • Conduct prospect research and prepare briefing summaries on individual, foundation, and corporate prospects
  • Support stewardship communications, including acknowledgment letters, impact updates, and donor reports
  • Help prepare development materials such as gift charts, donor lists, and campaign summaries
  • Provide general administrative support to the development team as needed

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an undergraduate or graduate program; interest in nonprofit management, public health, communications, or a related field
  • Exceptional attention to detail and comfort working with large volumes of data
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to write clearly for external audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with CRM or database systems (Blackbaud, Salesforce, or comparable) a plus
  • Comfort using AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT to support research and drafting workflows
  • Discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential donor information
  • Self-directed, organized, and able to manage detailed, repetitive work with consistency and care

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct experience with nonprofit CRM management and donor data operations
  • Exposure to the full major gifts cycle, from prospect research through proposal and stewardship
  • Mentorship from GSF’s development leadership
  • A meaningful contribution to an organization delivering cleft care to patients worldwide
