Every project is unique, requiring creative problem-solving, technical precision, and close collaboration with fabricators around the world.

We're looking for an Industrial Design Intern who is excited by the intersection of art, engineering, and manufacturing. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys figuring out how creative ideas become physical objects and wants hands-on experience taking projects from concept through production.

Responsibilities

  • Translate conceptual artwork into production-ready shop drawings for manufacturing, including both 2D and 3D drawings when required.
  • Develop and maintain accurate technical drawings throughout the client review and approval process.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, CAD files, floor plans, and elevations to create fabrication documents.
  • Work directly with domestic and overseas manufacturers to ensure artwork is produced accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Clearly communicate design intent and client expectations to our production partners, including our manufacturing team in China.
  • Coordinate with clients to gather all necessary information required for fabrication and production.
  • Review prototypes and production samples to ensure they meet design specifications before client approval.
  • Monitor projects throughout fabrication, proactively identifying and resolving production issues.
  • Prepare installation drawings, templates, and instructions to ensure successful installation.
  • Assist with the creation of mockups, samples, and occasional artwork for client presentations.

Qualifications

  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and produce technical drawings.
  • Comfortable communicating with both clients and manufacturers throughout the design and production process.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Interest in custom fabrication, industrial design, furniture, sculpture, or product development.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to thrive in a collaborative studio environment.

Software

Experience with the following is preferred:

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • AutoCAD
  • SolidWorks

Experience with Rhino or other 3D modeling software is a plus.

What You'll Learn

  • How large-scale custom artwork moves from concept to fabrication.
  • Real-world experience creating shop drawings for production.
  • Direct collaboration with artists, designers, and international manufacturers.
  • Material selection, fabrication techniques, and quality control.
  • End-to-end project management for custom art and hospitality installations.
